National Nude Day is July 14th and I have a way for you to celebrate that’s completely PG; by rocking the quintessential nude shoe. This shoe has become a staple in every woman’s wardrobe and is incredibly versatile year-round. Usually when you think of a “nude” shoe the standard beige pump comes to mind, but I’m here to lay down the top do’s and don’ts when it comes to rockin' this classic look.
DO: Keep It Simple
The point of a nude shoe is to add visual length to your legs so there is no need for over the top embellishments or any excessive details, especially if you’re trying to blend it with your skin. A good patent leather pointy toe makes enough of a statement.
DON’T: Wear With Dark Tights
Unless you’re going for the quickest way to look older than you actually are, stick with a bare leg.
DO: Balance It Out
Nude on nude might come off as too bland, but if you’re really set on pursuing this combo go for a subtle print or textured pattern that adds interest. On the other hand, this shoe color works especially well with both summer brights and soft, feminine pastels.
DO: Use It as an Anchor
Even though neutral tones are often used for simpler outfits, don’t be afraid to use it as an anchor if you’re wearing a busy look (ie. bold colors, busy prints, etc.).
DON’T: Be Afraid to Stand Out
The “rule” is to wear a shade no more than two tones darker or lighter. However, if you are going for the plunge make sure to go several shades away from your skin tone so it looks intentional, nothing is worse than mustering the confidence to go against the status quo and having people think it was a flat out mistake. Fairer skin should stick close to lighter hues that won’t look too harsh while olive to darker tones can rock a variety of “nudes” from beige to chocolate brown.
Now that you’re armed with these tips, get some nudes in your life!
