Raise your hand if you have a hard time finding the right pair of jeans. Yup, that included me until I realized I was just choosing whatever fit instead of what complimented my shape, the hourglass. My waist is way smaller than my hips so when I found a pair that fit over my umm, curves, I took it and ran with it but then I was stuck with the dreaded gaping waistband. You know what I’m talkin’ about-that awkward gap created by the waistband not fitting to your back.
A well-fitting pair of jeans is necessary for your wardrobe because it is one of the most versatile items that can be dressed up or down for just about any occasion. Luckily I’ve done the research for you, so just sit back, scroll down and find your perfect pair for your shape. And if you’re not sure of your shape then head over to my simple guide to knowing your body type.
If you’re a Triangle...Focus on a style that will elongate the legs. A mid-rise boot cut is perfect for you. Opt for a dark wash to create a sleek, flattering look. If you have a flatter booty go for jeans that have embellishments or other back pocket details that’ll amp you up.
If you’re an Inverted Triangle...The trick is to add visual interest to the bottom half of your body. This means you can rock flares and light/colored jeans, which balance you out and create proportion to your top! It’s all about those little details to complement you, so look for a mid-rise pair of jeans with bold stitching, pocket flaps or other interesting details on the back pockets.
If you’re an Hourglass...Two words: High Rise. My issue was wearing every other cut of jeans but high rise but these were the solution to all my denim problems. This rise ensures a proper fit to your waist and smooth over your hips. I always choose a pair with a but of stretch because 1. Who doesn’t love a good stretch and 2. The stretch really molds (smooths out my figure), creating a flattering fit. A narrow leg of a skinny or straight leg jean also balances wider hips, like mine.
If you’re a Diamond...A little stretch and a mid-rise flatter your figure all the way. Draw attention away from your midsection with a pair of skinny jeans that will hit right below the belly button to minimize the midsection, balance your waistline, and show off those curves. Also, look for back pocket details to create the illusion of a curvier behind. Straight leg and cropped styles also work for you.
If you’re a Ruler...You can wear most denim styles. Skinny jeans are perfect for creating a balanced silhouette, wear with a flowy top or a pair of flares with a slim fitting top. Mid-rise jeans are great too, just remember to add volume to create more shape where you need it. As for low rise jeans, you can pull those off but buyer beware they scream early 2000s Britney, just sayin’
